The Chinese name for tea is "cha". In China, tea is presented with uncomplicated simplicity in a relaxed and meditative atmosphere. Drinking tea tempers the spirit, calms the mind, alerts thought, prevents drowsiness, lightens and refreshes the body. Tea has less caffeine and more magnesium than coffee. It is stated that green tea has 8-36 mg. of caffeine compared to coffee's approximately 200 mg. Tea contains 20 amino acids, 12 sugars, 6 organic acids, polyphenoic compounds, essential oils, fluoride, theophylline, and vitamin C.
Chinese teas are rarely blended unlike herbal prescription. It is considered OTC herbs. Unlike western teas, it comes in a blend, i.e. Lipton tea bags often have a black tea combination. The Chinese also use tea leaves and not tea bags. It is because tea leaves come directly from the plant and have both a higher therapeutic value and better tasting as well. Tea in a bag is often referred to as "tea dust" or "shavings" picked up from the floor.
