Allergies & Sinus Problems

News - Latest News and Research

Fall is the season to treat allergies, sinus problems, dry skin and melocholy.   In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) each season targets a particular organ system.  In the autumn, the lung (In TCM, the organs are referred to in the singular to denote a meaning that goes beyond the physical organ) is the most sensitive this time of the year giving rise to a number of health problems.  One major principle of TCM holds that if the body has sufficient Qi, or internal energy, and the organ systems work in harmony with each other, then good health will result.  An important function of the Lung is the control of Qi in the entire body, and this function has two aspects.

1. Respiration; the breathing of the lungs inhale oxygen and exhale CO2.  This continuous renewal of Qi provides essential support for all processes in the body that require internal energy to function.

2. Formation and distribution of Qi; This Qi therefore goes on to warm, protect, moisten and nourish throughout the body. If the lung's energy is deficient, this protective function can become impaired, possibly resulting in lowered immune function.  Patients often experience increased susceptibility to colds and flus in the winter.

Allergies, sinus problems, fatique are the main imbalances of the lung organ system.  Other imbalances that tend to occur during this season are dry skin, brittle hair, hoarse or low weak voice, coughing, head colds, neck pain, asthma, urination problems, gastro-intestinal issues, crying or melocholy, depression.  If you are prone to these medical conditions, this is the time to build up your body from the inside before these conditions occur. Come in for a TCM prevention treatment.  On the other hand, if you already have these problems, you definately need to be treated.
