Everyone has a special connection with our beds. There is the fancy therapeutic bed, waterbed, soft mattress, or firm mattress. To me, a bed is a bed. It is a welcoming receptacle where our bodies cannot wait to melt into at night. It also acts as a portal, springing us into dreams…transporting us far away to unknown lands and introducing us to new adventures. However, beware these dreams can quickly turn into a nightmare, a real nightmare.

This nightmare came to life for me a couple years ago when I lived in a college dorm. As I got ready for the day one morning, I noticed small red spots in various places on my abdomen. At first, I thought I might be allergic to my new clothes. After a week or so, I noticed that the spots would itch and appeared redder in the morning and then subsided throughout the day. After some research, and knowing my sleeping habit of sleeping on my stomach, I concluded that I had bedbugs.
