Insurance

Written by Marc Acurso. Posted in CIM

At the Center for Integrated Medicine, we accept many healthcare plans.  Our experienced staff is ready to assist you in determining your benefits for our services.

The process is simple, just stop by or call our office with your insurance information, we will then place a call to your insurance carrier to find out important information about your plan.

Some insurance companies may view holistic and natural medicine services differently than medical services provided by your MD. A call to your insurance company by one of our experienced staff members will find out exactly what is covered and what is not. How much your patient responsibility is and all the other finer details of your plan. Once we have this information we will explain your benefits to you as they pertain to our services.  You will be advided as to how much your patient responsibilty is for each office visit.

Alternatively, it may be that your healthcare benefits do not rise to such a level to make it worthwhile for us to process your claim. In that case, we may establish a flat fee for our services and give you the option of billing your insurance company yourself.  You may also be interested in our Community Acupuncture Program.

As of this writing, Medicare does not provide covergage for our services. Legislation is pending however to change this.

About CIM

Written by Marc Acurso. Posted in CIM

Husband and wife team offer special brand of medicine in a very unique way to South Valley

Dr. Kwong-Robbins and Frank Robbins, MSTCM, L.Ac. practice Traditional Chinese Medicine (also referred to as Oriental Medicine) in the Central Valley. Their clinic, the Center for Integrated Medicine, is a full service Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic. Such medical modalities as acupuncture, Tui Na massage, cupping, moxibustion, food therapy, Tai Chi, medical Qi Gong and the granddaddy of them all, Chinese herbal medicine, are all practiced at their clinic.

One of the standout features of the center is its herbal pharmacy where loose and powdered herbs are formulated into herbal prescriptions tailored for each individual patient. Patent medicines in pill form are available as well.

Another unique feature is that their practice takes a caring approach where they listen to the patient and strive to find innovative solutions to their health care needs.

Dr. Kwong-Robbins and Frank Robbins describe themselves as two bodies with one mind. "We are the yin and the yang," said Kwong-Robbins, who described herself as the yin and her husband as the yang.

According to Frank Robbins "even though Traditional Chinese Medicine is a centuries old practice, he likes to describe it as "healthcare for the new millennium" because as it has evolved through each and every Chinese dynasty, new things are being discovered everyday and it is still being used to treat modern diseases of the 21st century."

Dr. Kwong-Robbins has a doctorate degree in Pharmacy Practice as well as 17 years Western medical experience. She also has a post-doctorate degree in TCM and is a California state licensed and board certified TCM medical practitioner. Dr. Kwong Robbins is also an associate professor and clinical lecturer of integrated medicine. Teaching is a big part of this center and she continues to precept intern students from various universities. She serves as Director of Clinical Services at the center.

Frank Robbins, B.A., MSTCM. L.Ac. is a TCM medical practitioner and is a California state licensed, board certified acupuncturist and herbalist. He is the only such male medical practitioner with these credentials in Tulare/Kings counties. Robbins is a lecturer of TCM and serves as President of Center for Integrated Medicine.

Over the years, due to media coverage and the way western science has explained the effectiveness and use of acupuncture, most people think acupuncture is used only for the treatment of pain. This is true, but more importantly, TCM is a complete medical system unto itself and can be used to treat a variety of internal and external diseases. TCM is a natural and holistic medicine and can be used as a alternative or complementary medicine. To help the public understand this, the Center for Integrated Medicine provides a Public Education and Awareness Series to educate their patients as well as the general public. This is a series of classes ranging from understanding acupuncture to an introduction to herbal therapy and the very popular Chinese Way of Eating Healthy cooking class. The center even holds regular Tai Chi Chuan classes.
